Chicago 2008
Trade Mission Concludes on a high Note
The US Embassy in Cameroon trade delegation that visited Chicago
departed for Cameroon on November 15, 2008, after a successful
visit to the US. The delegation participated in Pack Expo
International 2008 held at the McCormick Convention Center
in Chicago, and the 2008 Business and Technology Forum that
was organized specifically for the visiting trade delegation.
The trade delegation was welcomed to Chicago by Khalid Elkhatib
of the Chicago Mayor’s Office of International Relations,
Samuel Ntum from the Illinois Department of Commerce, Marcelino
Garcia from the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee and Katheryn
Ward of the Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Kinge Monono,
the Finance Counselor for the Cameroon Mission at the UN,
gave welcome remarks on behalf of the Cameroon Mission at
the UN and Cameroon Embassy.
The Cameroon delegation was made up of 33 companies, government
departments and agencies, and 39 individuals. Over 30 US companies
met with the Cameroon delegation. Contacts were initiated
and discussions held in several product and service sectors.
The Renu housing project that is poised to break ground for
532 homes in 2009 was a key area of discussion and many vendors
for the project were in attendance. Other areas of interest
included home and road construction equipment, computers and
used cars.
The Cameroon delegation was led by Mr. Jean Paul Yana and
Mr. Christopher Ekom of the US Embassy in Yaounde. The Trade
Mission was sponsored by the US Embassy in Yaounde and Makuna
International Corp. The next Chicago trade mission and forum
is scheduled for October 26, 2008.
