Chicago 2008 Trade Mission Concludes on a high Note

The US Embassy in Cameroon trade delegation that visited Chicago departed for Cameroon on November 15, 2008, after a successful visit to the US. The delegation participated in Pack Expo International 2008 held at the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago, and the 2008 Business and Technology Forum that was organized specifically for the visiting trade delegation.

The trade delegation was welcomed to Chicago by Khalid Elkhatib of the Chicago Mayor’s Office of International Relations, Samuel Ntum from the Illinois Department of Commerce, Marcelino Garcia from the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee and Katheryn Ward of the Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Kinge Monono, the Finance Counselor for the Cameroon Mission at the UN, gave welcome remarks on behalf of the Cameroon Mission at the UN and Cameroon Embassy.

The Cameroon delegation was made up of 33 companies, government departments and agencies, and 39 individuals. Over 30 US companies met with the Cameroon delegation. Contacts were initiated and discussions held in several product and service sectors. The Renu housing project that is poised to break ground for 532 homes in 2009 was a key area of discussion and many vendors for the project were in attendance. Other areas of interest included home and road construction equipment, computers and used cars.

The Cameroon delegation was led by Mr. Jean Paul Yana and Mr. Christopher Ekom of the US Embassy in Yaounde. The Trade Mission was sponsored by the US Embassy in Yaounde and Makuna International Corp. The next Chicago trade mission and forum is scheduled for October 26, 2008.
